Otopeni Airport

Located 11 miles (18 km) north of Bucharest, in the town of Otopeni, the Henri Coandă International Airport is the most important airport in Romania, with more than 14 million passengers passing through each year.

Henri Coandă International Airport, more commonly known as Otopeni Airport due to its location, was used as a military airbase in the Second World War. Over time it has been expanded and improved, leading it to be the most important airport in Romania.

How to Get to Bucharest from the Airport

There are several different ways of getting to the city centre from the airport, we'll explain the most common options.

Private Transfer Service

If you want an easy, stress-free way of getting to your hotel from the airport, all you need to do is book a private transfer. With this option, a driver will be waiting for you at the arrivals hall, and they'll take you directly to where you want to go. You can book this option for as little as € 33 (US$ 34.82) a trip.

Bus

The cheapest way of getting to the city centre from the airport is by bus. You can take line 780 or 783 between 5:20 am and 11 pm. The buses leave every 15 to 30 minutes and the journey takes around 40 minutes (although it may take longer during rush hour or if there is a lot of traffic).

Please note that you cannot buy a ticket on the bus, rather you need to buy a card beforehand. A return journey costs 8 RON (US$ 1.69).

Train

Catching the train to the centre of Bucharest from the airport is possible, but it is the least recommendable option with regard to time, as the station isn't actually in the airport and you have to take a shuttle to get there. The price of the train is 7.70 RON (US$ 1.63) per journey.
